Myanmar to select traditional chess players for coming SEA Games

YANGON, February1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar Chess Federation will choose the outstanding traditional chess players for the coming 27th Southeast Asian Games to be hosted in Theinphyu stadium this month, according to Myanmar Chess Federation on Wednesday.

The chess tournament is scheduled to take place from February 15 to 23.

At least eight chess players who qualified in the qualifier will be allowed to participate in the National Chess Championship and the outstanding players of the championship will be chosen as selected players for the 27th SEA Games.

"So far, with one grand master (GM), U Zaw Min, and 5 international masters, nearly 150 players mainly played professional chess players in Yangon," a spokesperson of the MCF told Xinhua.

There are four levels in playing Chess games -- Grand Master (GM), International Master (IM) , FIDE(Federation Internationale des Echecs) Master (FM) and Candidate Master.

Myanmar will add five categories of traditional chess in the 27th SEA Games.
